Pattern hair loss that occurs in males are known as Male Pattern Hair Loss (MPHL) and females who experience it are known as Female Pattern Hair Loss (FPHL).<\/p>\n
What is common between them is that it typically affects the top and front of the scalp. In males, hair loss typically presents as a receding hairline while in females, it typically presents as a thinning of the hair.<\/p>\n
MPHL is believed to be due to a combination of genetics and the male hormone, Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and it often referred to as Androgenetic Alopecia. Men with MPHL usually have higher levels of 5 alpha reductase, lower total testosterone and increased levels of DHT.<\/p>\n
It has been thought that high levels of DHT leads to miniaturisation of the hair follicles causing them to weaken and leads to hair loss. Androgenetic alopecia is usually experienced as a moderately stressful condition that diminishes body image satisfaction although the psychological effects of hair-loss tends to be greater in women.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":449,"template":"","conditions_category":[8],"yoast_head":"\n
