The term jowl is often used to describe sagging and excess skin just below the jawline. Almost everyone develops jowls as they age because the skin becomes less elastic and thinner over time.<\/span><\/p>\n

With age, the lower cheek muscles lose their strength and volume. The skin around that area thus gravitates downwards which causes the jawline to lose its definition. Other factors that may play a part include smoking, overexposure to sunlight, genetics, and lifestyle choices, such as dietary habits. Face jowls are usually accompanied by nasolabial folds as well as drooping mouth corners\/marionette lines.<\/span><\/p>\n

As with other facial conditions that involve weakened muscles such as double chin and sagging neck, facial exercises, and exercise in general, have been touted to offer improvement. The goal is to build up strength in the related muscles over time, so they are better able to hold their shape. Other than exercises, you could also make some lifestyle changes such as eating a healthy diet, protecting yourself from sun exposure, avoiding smoking, and staying well hydrated.<\/span><\/p>\n

There are also many effective medical treatment options available to improve the appearance of jowls. These include non-invasive high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) and radio frequency (RF) therapy to contour and lift saggy skin. Dermal fillers can also be used to create a lifting effect as well.
