Moles are concentrations of pigment producing cells (melanocytes) in your skin and they are very common. Everyone has moles on their skin. What differs among individuals are the quantity and size of moles they have. Among different skin tones, individuals with fair skin tend to have more moles on their body. The medical term for moles is naevus and it comes from the Latin word for birthmark. Most moles are harmless and requests for removal are largely cosmetic in nature.
