Although it is usually associated with weight gain, you do not have to be overweight to have one.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Body\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Factors that influence the development of a double chin include:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Body\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Age \u2013 Our skin loses its elasticity as we age. This can lead to the development of extra or saggy skin that creates the appearance of a pocket of fat at the neck.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Body\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Diet and Weight \u2013 While weight gain is not always the cause of a double chin, it can certainly contribute to it. A diet high in calories, processed food, and unhealthy fats can cause weight gain and a double chin.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Body\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Genetics \u2013 Genes may play a role in individuals developing a double chin. Someone with a family history of skin with poor elasticity or double chins might be more likely to develop one themselves.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Body\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Posture \u2013 Poor posture can weaken the muscles of the neck and chin. This may contribute to a double chin over time as the surrounding skin loses its elasticity when the muscles are not used.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Body\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">There are exercises that have been touted to be useful at tightening the skin around the neck and chin. These exercises are sometimes also referred to as facial yoga and can be easily found on the internet via an online search. As with all exercises, it can take some time before results show.
